Condition
Presented in honest vintage condition is this fascinating Regency World Time from the 1970s. This is a characterful mechanical dress watch featuring a manually wound 17 jewel movement, black dial, framed date complication and one of its most distinctive features, a rotating world time bezel displaying major cities from around the globe.
The watch is showing clear signs of wear throughout, as expected from over 50 years of use. The case, bezel and crystal all display noticeable marks, however the watch is running well, keeping time and remains a fantastic vintage piece with plenty of character.
Dial
The original black dial remains in good vintage condition and displays a lovely aged appearance. Applied gold baton hour markers contrast beautifully against the glossy black background, while matching broad baton hands maintain excellent legibility.
At 3 o'clock sits a framed date window with contrasting red numerals, adding another period-correct design detail. The original Regency 17 Jewels and Shock Protected text remains clear and well preserved.
Case
One of the highlights of this watch is its original rotating world time bezel. Engraved with major cities including London, Cairo, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, New York, San Francisco, Paris and Rio de Janeiro, the bezel can be rotated to align different cities with the 24-hour scale around the dial.
Originally designed as a simple travel aid before the widespread use of GMT watches, the bezel allowed the wearer to estimate the approximate time in major cities around the world. It rotates correctly and remains a wonderful period feature that gives this watch its distinctive appearance.
Crown
The original crown operates correctly and allows smooth winding and time adjustment.
Movement
This watch houses its original 17 jewel manually wound movement. It is currently running well and keeping time, making it ready to be enjoyed by its next owner. As with all vintage mechanical watches, future servicing may be beneficial depending on the owner's intended use.
Case Back
The original stainless steel screw-down case back remains fitted and displays the original manufacturer engravings. It shows noticeable scratches and wear consistent with the age of the watch.
Strap
The watch has been fitted to a new black genuine leather strap, perfectly complementing the black dial and vintage styling while offering excellent comfort on the wrist.
For a watch of this age, this piece is in good overall order and is ready to wear.
